چکیده

The appearance of the source terms in modeling non-equilibrium flow problems containing finite-rate chemistry or combustion poses additional numerical difficulties beyond that for solving non-reacting flows. A well-balanced scheme, which can preserve certain non-trivial steady state solutions exactly, may help minimize some of these difficulties. In this paper, a simple one-dimensional non-equilibrium model with one temperature is considered. We first describe a general strategy to design high-order well-balanced finite-difference schemes and then study the well-balanced properties of the high-order finite-difference weighted essentially non-oscillatory (WENO) scheme, modified balanced WENO schemes and various total variation diminishing (TVD) schemes. The advantages of using a well-balanced scheme in preserving steady states and in resolving small perturbations of such states will be shown. Numerical examples containing both smooth and discontinuous solutions are included to verify the improved accuracy, in addition to the well-balanced behavior. 2009 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

A characteristic feature of hyperbolic systems of balance laws is the existence of non-trivial equilibrium solutions, where the effects of convective fluxes and source terms cancel each other. Recently a number of so-called well-balanced schemes were developed which satisfy a discrete analogue of this balance and are therefore able to maintain an equilibrium state. Construction of low dissipative high-order well-balanced filter schemes for non-equilibrium flows

The goal of this paper is to generalize the well-balanced approach for non-equilibrium flow studied by Wang et al. (2009) [29] to a class of low dissipative high-order shock-capturing filter schemes and to explore more advantages of well-balanced schemes in reacting flows. More general 1D and 2D reacting flow models and new examples of shock turbulence interactions are provided to demonstrate t...

Hydrodynamic Instabilities in Well-Balanced Finite Volume Schemes for Frictional Shallow Water Equations. The Kinematic Wave Case

We report the developments of hydrodynamic instabilities in several wellbalanced finite volume schemes that are observed during the computation of the temporal evolution of an out-balance flow which is essentially a kinematic wave. The numerical simulations are based on the one-dimensional shallow-water equations for a uniformly sloping bed with hydraulic resistance. Subsequently, we highlight ...

A well-balanced finite volume scheme for the Euler equations with gravitation

Context. Many problems in astrophysics feature flows which are close to hydrostatic equilibrium. However, standard numerical schemes for compressible hydrodynamics may be deficient in approximating this stationary state, in which the pressure gradient is nearly balanced by gravitational forces. Aims. We aim to develop a second-order well-balanced scheme for the Euler equations. The scheme is de...
